Dr. Rebecca Seifried, suradnica na projektu “CeVaS” (voditeljice prof. Helene Tomas), će tijekom narednih mjesec dana održati intenzivni tečaj GIS-a za sve zainteresirane studente Filozofskog fakulteta “Introduction to GIS for Social Scientists“. Budući da se sve više statističkih alata primjenjuje kroz vizualizaciju na GIS platformi (sociologija, arheologija, psihologija itd.), osnovne vještine manipulacije tim alatima višestruko su korisne za brojne humanističke kao i prirodoslovne discipline, a studentima omogućuje visoku kompetitivnost na tržištu rada. Posebnu prednost predstavlja to što je dr. Seifried kao arheologinja ovladala vještinama GIS-a, a ne obrnuto, što je vrlo čest slučaj.

Kolegij počinje u srijedu, 7.11.2018. i završava pred božićne blagdane, održavat će se srijedom od 14.00-15.30 sati u računalnoj učionici knjižnice FFa na prvome katu i po dogovoru sa dr. Seifried. Introduction to GIS for Social Scientists by Dr. Rebecca Seifried.

This course introduces students to the principles of spatial thinking and how geographic information systems (GIS) software is used in social science research. GIS is a tool for organizing and analyzing geospatial data, from simple map coordinates to more complex data about the landscape and the people who inhabit it. GIS enables researchers to easily record spatial data, assess patterns over space and time, and create maps to accompany their talks and publications. This course is designed as an introduction to GIS for students in the social sciences, including archaeology, ethnology and cultural anthropology, sociology, history, linguistics, or sociology. During the course, students will learn about how GIS is used in social science research projects. Students will gain hands-on experience using QGIS, an open-source GIS software, and practice working with real data from an archaeological research project.
